Pretzel Sunday is the Sunday before Ash Wednesday. Pretzels were historically served during Lent because they were simple- flour, salt, and water- during a time when people had fasted from sweets, meat, dairy etc.. One legend says a monk started making them in a shape that represents arms folded across your chest in prayer, either as a reward for children learning their Bible lessons or to remind them to pray.
We will be making soft baked pretzels on SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 13TH in the church basement at 10am. There is plenty of room for each family to have their own table to work at, and let’s wear masks so everyone feels comfortable being together. The dough will be ready to go, and we will be rolling, shaping, baking, and packaging (and yes, tasting) them. All youth high school and younger are welcome along with parents!
